August 18, 2012Bullying is a real thing but the sad part is that many people fail to realize they are being bullied, while a lot many others have no idea that they are the bullies! It is imperative to know what bullying is all about and an article about bullying is just the thing to build that knowledge. A bully is a person who uses strength to harm and intimidate a weaker individual. The act of bullying is to use superior strength in order to influence and force someone to do something that they wouldn’t normally do or do not wish to do.
Sometimes even a trivial act of calling names or making fun about another person can be considered bullying. Threatening a person, writing or spreading rumors about them or generally making them feel uncomfortable or afraid in any situation is called bullying. It is persistent unwelcome behavior, mostly using unwarranted or invalid criticism, nit-picking, fault-finding, also exclusion, isolation, being singled out and treated differently, being shouted at, humiliated, excessive monitoring, having verbal and written warnings imposed, and much more. While some people would think that bullying is the natural part of growing up and allowing people to take a stand for them or even a common playground incident that can be laughed at years later, it can leave a lasting impact on the victim’s mind and personality. People are bullied for a myriad of reasons, the basis of which is that they are too scared to stand up for themselves, this leaves a person feeling vulnerable, unsafe and unhappy with their own personality, traits and sometimes even the color of their skin!
Bullying is a unhealthy activity which results in greatly damaging a person and scarring them for life. If young individuals are not made fully aware of bullying they may end up living a frightened life which makes them passive aggressive and dangerous to those near them, in extreme cases. Depression, low self-esteem, health issues, suicidal thoughts even poor grades are impacts of bullying and can completely destroy an individual and their social experience, which is absolutely necessary in order to help them become better. Although bullying is not specific to a time and a place, the school life of a person is the most common time when they become bullying victims and are generally destroyed for life.
The best way to help a victim is to allow them to talk. But generally the victims are too scared of relaying any incidents, which is where articles on bullying come in to action. They relate stories from other victims, and build your trust so you may open up about bullying. They allow you to understand what you are going through and make you realize that it is okay to seek help for this very real issue. Moreover they give you hope and make you realize you are not alone in this, which means you can seek out others’ help in combating a bully and building your self esteem.
