March 28, 2021When we talk about the organization, the first thing came to mind is a group of people within an organized sequence, carrying out their work in order to attain their targets or goals. Owners invested a large number of their years and money as well, in order to make a successful organization in different extends.
However, it is not as simple as it is shown by the above-defined definition but it carries the whole world in it. Here, some of the organizational factors would be discussed with the objective of clearing the basic concept of different sorts of organizations.
First of all, there are many different cultures and behaviors that are normally practiced in different organizations. People are taken some as formal and leave the rest by calling them informal. However, it is understood that formal behaviors should be adopted because every single designation or job duties are written. And informal behaviors are optional that are not necessary to be adopted because there are no specific guidelines to follow regulations or doing work. Small enterprises often failed in adopting an appropriate cultural environment that is a mixture of both behaviors for the growth of their organization. Basically, the culture of the organization varies on the basis of the structure.
Organizational strong structure always impacts positively on all external or internal entities but tall and flat structures are two of the small topics that basically come under the structure of an organization. Organizations may have different structures than the competitors but they will only be either tall or flat structures. By tall structure, it means that organization will have a large number of hierarchical levels with more strict rules of reporting. In the case of a flat structure, an organization will have fewer hierarchical levels with more delegated working inside the organization means having less number of people working under the same identity.
However, another important aspect that is normally discussed in organizations is the span of control. It is one of the tools of evaluating the size and structure of the organizations, we mean the number of subordinates directly reporting to the one superior. For instance, if there are 15 people, who are reporting to a single manager, the span of control will be 15. In some organizations, there is a strictly defined criterion while deciding an optimum span of control but referred to have a flat or tall organization.
If the span of control is 5 or even less than 5, it will be referred to as a flat organization that would have fewer levels. However, if an organization refers to have more than 5 spans of control such an organization will be considered a tall organization means they have more hierarchical levels. It may increase or decrease but depends upon the communication skills of the supervisor that how he operates his subordinates and engage them.
